Welcome to the ShuttleBay blog! We're eager to discuss Edge of Chaos and today we're speaking with Ruben! Let's do a deep dive!
Edge of Chaos is a revolutionary Web3 MMORPG Sandbox game using Unreal Engine and MetaGravity's tech. It offers immersive combat, adventure, and an impactful in-game economy, reshaping traditional gaming boundaries.
Tell us about your Project/Brand
We are a Web3 games project that is utilising Unreal Engine and MetaGravity’s infrastructure technology to exemplify a game experience at unprecedented scale. Edge of Chaos is a low fantasy mediaeval MMORPG Sandbox game with rich combat, adventure and an in-game player economy that mirrors real life. Our game is envisioned as a truly persistent living and breathing world with non-linear dynamic gameplay, which means that your actions have the possibility of impacting the entire game world. The game will showcase a new era of gameplay experiences and bring life to what game developers had discarded as impossible since the genre was established.
As to onboard our community ahead of the full game title launch we have developed our game experience EoC:Dungeons. The game is an old school top down dungeon crawler game with a nostalgic feel. In the game the player controls a small army of various units to kill monsters as you venture into the depths collecting gold and gems from chests. Your efforts will amount to a score which is inputted into the weekly leaderboard where players are rewarded through placement and raffles in our Redeemer token. The Redeemer token will translate to a corresponding amount of $DUCAT, our native in-game token, on its launch within the year.
Tell us about your role
My name is Ruben and I am the Global Head of Web3 at MetaGravity/EoC. Having worked in Web3 consulting and launchpading projects since late 2021 I focus on the commercials, product market fit, value proposition and USPs of the product for EoC. Due to my background in gaming and e-sports I also work a lot together with the game development team on creating the game itself.
Why do you like using ShuttleBay?
I love Shuttlebay and its vision, it was a product that was sorely needed in the market to cut through the noise and give projects/brands tooling to interact with their followers in a rewarding and sustainable way. Due to the composition of the market and influences therein it has been hard for projects/brands to navigate, Shuttlebay helps with shortening down this process and brings with it cost efficiency towards your goals.
What are the challenges and opportunities that your brand faces in the Web3 space?
I believe all brands have a hard time identifying the right people to work with and their core believers in the ocean of various intent and interests that is Web3. Establishing a foundational community that is truly intrigued by what you are developing and will help grow and nurture your brand with pure intent is one of the biggest challenges that we all face as we’re working towards legitimising the space to onboard the broader masses.
What Rewards do you currently offer your community?
We mainly offer our community NFTs at this phase of our project but will soon shift over to an in-game token reward system which will allow our community of gamers to access in-game items ahead of the MMORPG Sandbox game launch.
What are your brand's plans for growth in the Web3 space?
We will be leveraging all relevant channels that have the attention of gamers, be that socials, publications, forums and/or traditional media. We believe in creative, informative and high-quality content and rewarding interaction. A focus for us will also be to have great partners to grow with in Web3 which is why we are partnering with FusionXYZ! Web3 is about building together and supporting each other which is what brought broad appeal to entrepreneurs that sees the strength and value in winning together.
What trends do you see in Web3? What are your predictions for what’s coming up next?
I might be biassed, but I believe GameFi is going to be the major catalyst to rocket the space forward. The applications of the technology are apparent improvements to the status-quo as they bring much more of the value back to the gamers. The space went through a static PFP euphoria with limited applications but ultimately we’ll always return to the technological innovations that solve real pain points. With that said I also believe that fungible PFPs will see its day as they showcase a flexibility that perhaps challenges the ethos but is in my opinion just a better product.
What advice would you give to other brands that are looking to enter the Web3 space?
Hire professionals that understand the history and market, we’ve seen countless brands try to move into the Web3 space with a Web2 mentality and it has been very costly for them. Take notes from a brand that has migrated in successfully, namely 9GAG because they did exactly this. Understand the culture first, because it is very much a cultural movement.
